The Gazan "Journalist" Who Called October 7th “The Greatest Day of Our Generation”
Why is the West mourning Ahmed Abu Aziz?
On Monday, reports broke that an Israeli strike in Gaza killed Ahmed Abu Aziz. Within hours, major outlets like the New York Times framed him as yet another “journalist” killed by Israel. Political leaders and NGOs joined in the chorus of mourning and condemnations of Israel once again sounded across the globe.
But here’s what they left out.
Ahmed Abu Aziz was not a neutral reporter. He was a Hamas propagandist who openly celebrated the October 7th massacre, calling it “the greatest day of our generation.” He thanked every faction of terror for their “work.” He posted cartoons glorifying hostage-taking. He shared pictures of kidnapped Israeli children and labeled them “soldiers” to justify war crimes.
This is the person who the West has chosen to mourn.
Ahmed’s Record
Cheering Hamas terrorists: Ahmed praised his friend Hamdan Al-Astal, a Hamas fighter killed while invading Israeli communities on October 7th.
Dehumanizing hostages: He paraded innocent Thai farm workers taken captive by Hamas, branding them “mercenaries.”
Rejoicing in Israeli suffering: He gloated that Israel was “living a real nightmare” while Gaza was filled with “great joy.”
Supporting all terror factions: He thanked “all factions” for their role in the October 7th massacre.
Celebrating atrocities in cartoons: He shared artwork mocking and glorifying the slaughter of civilians.
Labeling children as “soldiers”: When 8-year-old Ella and 15-year-old Dafna were dragged into Gaza in their pajamas, Ahmed called them “soldiers” to erase their innocence.
What Happened at Nasser Hospital
The IDF has already released its initial findings. Golani Brigade troops operating near the Nasser Hospital identified a Hamas camera positioned on the hospital grounds and being used to monitor Israeli movements in order to direct attacks. Hamas has used hospitals for terrorist activity throughout the war, and intelligence confirmed that Nasser Hospital had been exploited for that purpose since the beginning.
The troops struck the camera to remove the threat. The IDF confirmed that six of the people killed were terrorists, including one who took part in the October 7th massacre. The Chief of Staff emphasized that any civilian casualties are regrettable and ordered further review of the authorization and decision-making process.
Even Al Jazeera has admitted that Hamas was using Nasser hospital as a base of operations.
The Myth of “Targeting Journalists”
Headlines quickly implied Israel deliberately killed Ahmed because he was a journalist.
If Israel truly wanted to wipe out Gaza’s press corps, the death toll among reporters would not be a mere handful after nearly two years of war. Israel targets military threats. When mistakes seem to occur, they are investigated. This is one of those cases.
But even if you insist on believing Israel deliberately targeted Ahmed, the question remains: why is his death being mourned as though he was an innocent truth-teller?
Why Is the West Mourning Ahmed?
Palestinians mourning him is one thing. He likely represented their worldview. But when Western governments and news outlets sanctify him as a journalist, they are laundering his record of celebrating mass murder.
This is what it looks like when institutions in the West bend the knee to terrorism. Each time it happens, the moral collapse grows more obvious.
The Committee to Protect Journalists didn’t think any of this was worth mentioning.
And here’s what the NY Times had to say:
The Larger Lesson
There are some simple truths that bear repeating.
The only lasting path to safety for innocent Gazans is making sure Hamas can never again transform homes, schools, and hospitals into strongholds from which they wage war while hiding behind civilians.
If you're more upset about the handful of operational mistakes Israel has made during a 2-year war, than about Hamas using hospitals as command posts, you're part of the problem.
When Israel is accused of a war crime, it investigates, accepts responsibility if proven, and adapts its rules to prevent it from happening again. When Hamas commits atrocities, they record them, celebrate them, and vow to do it all over again. That is the difference between us and them.
